1. Kelly, a 20-year-old college student, has been extremely tired lately and has been sick frequently during the past winter. Sandy, her roommate, thinks that Kelly might be anemic. Kelly is a vegan and currently weighs 115 pounds and is 5 feet, 7 inches tall. Consider the following questions:
A. Could Kelly be anemic? What symptoms of anemia does Kelly exhibit?
B. How might Kelly’s eating habits influence her risk for anemia?

2. Scott’s girlfriend has invited him home for Sunday lunch to meet her parents. Their relationship is serious, and Scott is a bit nervous during the lunch. The lunch consists of a tossed salad with her mom’s special buttermilk dressing, baked ham, sweet potato casserole, broccoli in cheese sauce, hard-crusted dinner rolls with butter and strawberry preserves, milk or iced tea, and cheesecake for dessert. About an hour after lunch Scott was not feeling well at all. His stomach was cramping; he felt bloated and developed a case of diarrhea.
What might be the problem?

  1. I think kelly is anemic, because fatique is one the syptom of anemia and she is already experiencing it.Because she is vegan, may be she not eating enough food that is rich in iron.So she need to change her habit and start consuming food that is rich in iron and some iron supplement.

  2. She could be anemic, being sick & fatigue could be a sign for her. she is pretty thin compared to her height. She may need to change her diet to consume more vitamins & minerals including iron. she can also visit her doctor & get supplements if needed.

  3. Scott may feel ill because the lunch consisted of several dishes that have a rich creamy sauce. Consuming alot of carbs will make you feel bloated especially if he is not used to eating that type of food.
