1. Jamee, a 50-year-old female, was pulled from her burning home. On review by the physicians, it was estimated that 30% of her body was burned with second-degree burns. Jamee’s usual body weight is 175 pounds and she is 5 feet, 5 inches tall.
A. Using the Harris-Benedict formula, calculate her kcalorie needs, including an injury factor of 1.7 for the burns and an activity factor of 1.2.
B. Describe the nutritional goals for Jamee.

2. A 30-year-old mother of two has terminal breast cancer. She has clearly stated that she wants no heroic measures to maintain life. The doctor says that the only way to feed her now is through total parenteral nutrition (TPN).
A. Discuss the issues related to the decision to use this feeding method.
B. State your decision and defend it.
